Oaklands Therapy

Counselling, Psychotherapy, EMDR and Supervision

My Background

Before completing my counselling training in 1994, I taught English & Communications, mainly in Further Education. After qualifying as a counsellor, I worked in colleges in Sandwell, Birmingham and Cheshire as Counselling Tutor and in Higher Education as a Student Counsellor.   After a four-year training in Integrative Psychotherapy at Regent’s College, London, I served in NHS Mental Health services for 13 years in a variety of roles, including Staff Counsellor, family practitioner in a family therapy clinic and psychotherapist on a community Mental Health team (CMHT) for 8 years.   As a qualified trainer and therapist in BFT (Behavioural Family Therapy), I worked with families or carers of someone affected by mental illness or other health difficulties to help them discover effective ways of supporting one another and taking care of themselves.   I am a qualified clinical supervisor and counsellor trainer. I now work in private practice as a therapist, supervisor and trainer.   I am a member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (with whom I am registered as an Integrative Psychotherapist) and the EMDR UK & Ireland Association. UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) requires its members to work within a strict Code of Ethics and Practice, to which I adhere, and to undergo regular supervision with another experienced therapist in order to monitor my work.
